EU HORIZON 2020 WIDENING PROGRAMME INFODAY AND WORKSHOP IN YEREVAN
On September 13-14, 2018, National Academy of Sciences of Armenia (NAS RA) held Infoday and Workshop on EU HORIZON 2020 Widening Programme in the framework of the EC funded Horizon2020 EaP+ Project on "STI International Cooperation Network for EaP Countries Plus" and in cooperation with NCP_WIDE.Net Project. The event aimed at improving participation of Armenian teams in H2020 Widening Programme and covered Widening instruments: Twinning and ERA chairs, experience sharing from EU counterparts and practical exercises.

The event was attended by representative of the EU Delegation to Armenia, the Deputy Chairman of State Committee of Science of Armenia, experts from Poland and Cyprus and of course Armenian scientific community.

In his welcome address representative of NAS RA noted that the Academy attaches high importance to the organization of such events that aim at raising general awareness on the H2020 among Armenian scientific community and promoting more active participation in EU programs as the active involvement of Armenian scientific centers in the European programmes can be considered a bridge leading to the participation of Armenia and other countries in the region in the formation of the European Research Area.

In this context he also singled out the role of the International Scientific and Technological Programs Department of NAS which has been established since 2008 with the main function to assist and support the academic institutes on all possible issues related to participation in international programmes by means of advice, consultation, information dissemination and organization of targeted events.

The Deputy Chairman of State Committe of Science, Mr. Vardan Sahakyan noted that the promotion of international cooperation is one of the priorities of the State Committee of Science and in the recent years quite a lot has been done to promote international bilateral and multilateral cooperation. More active participation of Armenian organizations in international grant programs is also prioritized, of course, participation in European Framework Programmes being of outmost importance. In this regard he stressed the significance of the role and the activities covered by the EaP PLUS project in this process.

Representative of EU delegation to Armenia, Mr. Stanislav Toshkov highlighted the importance of Armenia-EU cooperation and association of Armenia to H2020 programme in May 2016. He noted that this event was in line with general activities of EU Delegation to Armenia, in particular, with EU funded SMEDA project, one of the components of which focuses on activities directed to supporting more active participation of Armenian organizations in Horizon 2020, mostly in H2020 SME Instrument and Widening Participation programmes.

All in all 9 very sophisticated presentations were made during the workshop, covering the H2020 Widening Programme instruments, "tips" & "hints" for successful applications and analysis of previous submitted proposals form Armenian institutions. Invited experts from Cyprus and Poland shared their experience and best practices followed by practical interactive exercises.

The event was a true success and received highly positive feedback from the participants.
